Eagles Open Season with Convincing Road Win in St. Louis

St. Louis BordoFriday May 2nd – FC Bordo St. Louis vs Quad City Eagles

The Quad City Eagles opened their 2014 campaign with a hard fought victory on the road on Friday night in St Louis.
FC Bordo, a new addition to the NPSL, opened the scoring in front of 600 fans in the 11th minute. Winger Emanuel Forbes broke down the right wing before crossing to Daniel Caballero who headed the ball beyond Eagles goalkeeper Chris Higgins into the bottom right corner, to make the scoreline 1-0 to the home side.

The goal woke up the Eagles and they started to gain a foothold in the game. A 1-on-1 chance for winger Javi Bautista went just past the right post, before lone striker Charles MacInnes blasted one over the bar from 25 yards.

FC Bordo had a header from a free-kick questionably ruled out for offside before the Eagles leveled the game in the 34th minute. MacInnes broke down the left wing, crossed to midfielder Ryan McEvoy who blasted the ball back across the six yard box for winger Kendrick Tyson to put the ball in the back of the net and level the game.

The Eagles came out in the second half a much more confident side. Tyson, MacInnes and Bautista nearly linked up to put the Eagles ahead before McEvoy had a goal ruled out for offside.

In the 55th minute the Eagles would finally take the lead. Tyson beat his marker, played Bautista down the left wing who also beat his man, cut inside and smashed the ball into the top right corner to make the scoreline 2-1 to the Eagles.

FC Bordo would continue to possess the ball well, but only threatened the Eagles defense with long range shots and dead ball situations.

The Eagles continued to threaten on the counter attack and in the 80th minute Bautista lofted the ball over the defense for MacInnes, who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner from 18 yards to make the scoreline 3-1, silencing the home fans and giving the Eagles the win on the road.

The Eagles next game is away in Madison as they face the Madison 56er’s on Saturday May 17th as they continue to defend their Central Conference Championship title.
